These original paintings for sale are by the artist Carol May.
My artwork is usually nature related. It is my joy to paint the beauty and wonder of the awesome gifts of God.
Originally I learned how to paint with oil paints. One year my sister gave me a calendar of watercolor paintings. It intrigued me and I decided to give watercolors a try.
Now I enjoy painting with either oils or watercolors. There is a rich classic beauty in oil paintings and a freedom with watercolor paintings.
My beautiful oil paintings are normally painted on stretched archival canvas or archival art panels, as noted.
The "oil" paintings use high quality pigments bound with alkyd resin. Alkyd paintings are referred to as oil paintings.
Alkyds are extremely durable and they look exactly like oil paintings. Alkyds have been my favorites for around thirty years and I am very pleased with the media.
It's a joy painting watercolors on Aquabord.
Most of my watercolor original paintings for sale are on Aquabord. (This is the correct spelling.) It is a hardboard with an archival Kaolin clay applied to the hardboard.
When the painting is dry, I apply several coats of a protective UV spray. Then the painting should be framed without glass.
Occasionally they will be on watercolor paper, as noted. Watercolor paintings on watercolor paper need to be matted and framed under glass.
